Gambiered Canton Silk, also known as Làng Silk (莨綢),

is a traditional silk fabric originating from Guangdong Province, China, with a history of over six centuries.

In 2008, its unique dyeing and finishing techniques were inscribed on China’s National List of Intangible Cultural Heritage.

It remains the only silk in the world dyed exclusively with natural plant extracts—the Dioscorea cirrhosa root.

Entirely handcrafted and dependent on nature, each piece of Xiangyunsha undergoes a meticulous process of plant dyeing, river mud coating, and repeated sun exposure, known as the ritual of “three steamings, nine boilings, and eighteen sun-dries.” Every inch of its bronze sheen and soft luster is a gift from time, sunlight, and the earth itself.

Our Interpretation

At Isabelle.C,
Gambiered Canton Silk is reinterpreted beyond its traditional forms.
Through contemporary silhouettes, panel construction, and colour contrast, the material is repositioned within an international fashion context—wearable, expressive, and relevant today.

Runway-Selected Craft Pieces

When traditional craftsmanship enters an international fashion context, we allow the material itself to speak.

Gambiered Canton Silk × Modern Silhouette Set

Showcased at the Thailand Fahion Week 2025 release session, this set is inspired by Hong Kong children’s paintings and explores the fusion of intangible cultural heritage Gambiered Canton Silk with contemporary tailoring.

The womenswear design features layered hemlines that highlight the fabric’s smooth drape while integrating its mottled texture into a suit-inspired silhouette, achieving a balance between softness and structure. The menswear retains Lingnan character through traditional Chinese frog buttons, combined with a relaxed fit suited to modern menswear aesthetics.

Together, the designs merge the depth of heritage materials with an effortless, everyday sensibility.

Gambiered Canton Silk Artisanal Patchwork Dress

This piece was selected for runway presentation at Thailand Fashion Week and previously debuted at CENTRESTAGE 2025. Inspired by a children’s artwork from Hong Kong, the design uses panel construction and colour-blocking to reposition Gambiered Canton Silk within a contemporary visual framework.

The garment features wide sleeves and a relaxed silhouette. One side is crafted from deep ocean-blue fabric, forming a cape-like drape with generous volume, while the other side showcases Gambiered Canton Silk printed with the original child’s illustration. The juxtaposition of heterogeneous materials and contrasting colours amplifies the natural texture and depth of the heritage silk.

Lightweight construction and a modern, loose cut make the piece suitable for everyday wear, allowing the tactile richness of traditional craftsmanship to merge seamlessly with youthful, modern energy.

Gambiered Canton Silk Maxi Dress

Debuted at CENTRESTAGE 2025 and selected for runway presentation at Thailand Fashion Week, this Gambiered Canton Silk maxi dress is inspired by Hong Kong children’s artwork.

The design centers on bold colour-blocking and panel construction, creating an abstract ink-wash and diffused dye effect across the garment. Rich hues of purple, green, yellow, and red unfold dynamically with movement, while the custom-dyed heritage silk reveals layered depth and fluidity, allowing traditional material to express a vivid contemporary presence on the international runway.

Inspired by Hong Kong children’s artwork, the design adopts a vintage-elegant approach, with a wide tonal bow at the waist that defines the silhouette and adds softness. The bodice is crafted from solid warm-yellow Gambiered Canton Silk, while the skirt features colour-dyed panels in the same heritage fabric, creating visual contrast within a unified material language.

Through thoughtful construction and restrained detailing, the piece allows traditional silk to appear both graceful and confidently modern.

Gambiered Canton Silk Parent-Child Outfits

This collection debuted at CENTRESTAGE 2025 and is inspired by the award-winning Hong Kong children’s artwork Taste of Hong Kong.

Crafted exclusively with Gambiered Canton Silk, a Chinese intangible cultural heritage textile, the kidswear adopts a fluffy silhouette reminiscent of pineapple buns, echoing the softness and warmth of Hong Kong teatime culture, while the womenswear features an asymmetric strap maxi dress that creates light, flowing lines. Handcrafted Gambiered Canton Silk patchwork boots complete the look, reinforcing material unity and elevating the overall refinement.
